Strategic Gaps

Where the real opportunity lived

Operational efficiency. Meal prep businesses were managing menus, orders, fulfillment and customer communication across disconnected tools. The cost was operator burnout, error-prone logistics and limited scalability. The question: how could a single command layer reduce that daily friction?

White-label scalability. How could a shared platform enable rapid brand deployment for 100+ operators without compounding engineering debt? Each business needed its own identity without rebuilding the same underlying product.

Revenue growth. The design challenge was to embed recurring subscription logic directly into the ordering flow, making continuity the path of least resistance.

Pre-purchase friction. Missing macros, limited filtering and unclear portions made customers work too hard before a cart decision. Nutritional transparency belonged in the browsing experience.

Design Logic

Prioritize the operator

I treated the operator command layer as the product’s core. Menu publishing, order triage, label printing and promotion management needed to make sense to non-technical business owners. Each decision came back to one question: does this reduce the owner’s daily decision overhead?

Make theming a first-class constraint

A token-based design system, variable fonts and auto-layout components separated visual identity from functional behavior. The architecture supported 100+ brand identities on a shared codebase. Theming was part of the foundation, not a customization layer added later.

Design the operational loop

Menu creation → order management → fulfillment → customer retention. I mapped the full value chain and considered how each surface handed work to the next. The system mattered as much as the individual screens.

Sequence around business value

Menu clarity, checkout flow and subscription mechanics were prioritized as the highest-leverage problems. Less critical surface polish was deferred to protect delivery speed.

Impact

The published case study reports 100+ brands deployed, a 3× conversion lift and 75% customer retention. Its narrative also reports 35% average customer-base growth for onboarded businesses and a $20 increase in average order value. These are the figures reported in the original portfolio; the source does not include measurement windows or methodology.

“Happy Meal Prep has been amazing, it changed the way I run my business.”

Reflection

The project highlighted the balance between speed and stability. Moving fast allowed for validation during the pandemic, while aligning the team on a shared design vision helped establish the foundation for a lasting SaaS product. Strategic clarity and scalable systems turned a short-term response into a platform that could continue to grow.
